Texas winters can be unpredictable. Better to be prepared for any kind of weather so that you can properly protect your landscape investment! Here are some steps you can take to protect your landscape from freezing weather. Click on the links for more information about our favorite products.
1. Make sure you have plenty of plant covers! We recommend Planket covers. The Planket will insulate your plants while still letting in some natural sunlight. Make sure the plants are covered all the way to the ground and sealed along the bottom of the cover. The Planket kit comes with stakes, but large rocks work well too.
2. Protect your pipes. We like to use the Freeze Miser. It easily attaches to your hose bib and prevents it from ever freezing. A thermal wax inside senses when temperatures drop below a certain degree and only allows water to drip at or below that temperature. This protects your pipes from freezing and also saves water.
3. Bring houseplants or other tropical plants indoors. Indoor grow lights can be used in areas of your house that don't get much natural sunlight. We like to use these wagons for moving larger plants around, or these stands with wheels.
4. Make sure to water everything before the cold weather hits! The water will act as an insulator for the roots and help protect your plants from a hard freeze. We use this retractable hose in our own backyard and at our shop for hand watering.
